Historic Antibes

The ancient walled town of Antibes is one of the liveliest and prettiest on the Riviera, with the gorgeous historic centre of narrow cobbled streets, markets, and cafes. Famous for being home to the Spanish painter Pablo Picasso.

Antibes is easily recognizable thanks to its iconic skyline made up of a wonderful jumble of old buildings set up on the high ramparts above the sea, dominated by the tower of the Picasso Museum rising above. The curve of Port Vauban is home to huge white superyachts and the old Fort Carré on the far side.

Lying 10 km to the east of Cannes, Antibes offers a calmer vibe. Its old centre is a warren of pretty cafes and restaurants, ice cream shops and boutiques, with the busy daily Provencal market at the top of the town which in the evening turns into many restaurants where you can enjoy excellent foods with local products.

At a 5-10-minutes’ walk from the centre along the seaside over the pedestrian promenade, the golden sandy beaches Ponteil and Salis curve around to the famous Cap d’ Antibes, where the gated villas of oligarchs sit along the rocky coast. You will not be short of entertainment. Markets are popular. There are plenty of cultural and musical events, regattas, and other sports competitions. Head out onto the beach in front of the apartment and enjoy a whole range of water sports. Exploring the Cap d’Antibes with its extraordinary Garoupe bay and beaches on bike or foot is another option. Do not forget shopping at the local markets or the designer boutique shops. Visit the Musée Picasso, situated in the Chateau Grimaldi and the Fort Carré, a fantastic old stone fortress that perches on the edge of the Saint Rocher Peninsula offering panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea.

Antibes is only 10-15 minutes from Nice airport and an excellent base for visiting Marineland, Nice, Cannes, Théoule-sur-Mer, Vence, Syt. Paul de Vence, Valbonne, Biot, Grasse, Menton, St. Raphael, St. Tropez, Monaco, Ventimiglia market, etc.
